Spartan Super - Singapore
On Saturday we completed our third Spartan Race - our first Super, 8 miles with 30 obstacles.
Having done two Sprints now, I wasn't overly nervous - I knew what to expect with the set up, I know most of the obstacles by now, and I know when I just need to walk straight to the burpee zone (cough multi rig and monkey bars). Our team size drastically shrank due to the uped distance but morals were high. Four of us from the Spartan in March are aiming for our Trifecta, and we welcomed Tara (a newby to OCRs) to the squad on the day also.
Looking at the obstacles we were fairly confident, but dear god they had the Sky Tower Climb again goddamit - the burn was going to be real! And we also had a Swim for the first time in any of our races - this was going to be interesting.
Worst moments:
Attempting the Atlas Carry - needing all five girls to lift this wet concrete ball, with nowhere to grip, whilst slip sliding in ankle deep mud
Two of the obstacles including the swim to be closed due to lightning
The weather - now this was a proper Spartan.. Never did I think I'd wish for sand over the mud, or be craving the swim and dunk wall just to clean up
Best moments:
The mud slide - no this wasn't an obstacle but it could have been.. and seeing Superman try to slide on his feet down it, turning into a full roly poly was the best thing ever
Comorardary at its finest - something I never get over when doing the Spartan Races; how every single person supports, encourages and helps one another on that course be it words of positivity, a boost, a helping hand or literally throwing you over a wall - we laugh, we endure and we survive
Farmers drag and plate drag - this is what I'm good at and I love it
Sand bag carry - listening to how Tara smashed it because that's how they carry water in Trinidad in her accent
Team support - every high wall I get into a squat and boost those girls over; every inverted or slip wall we all push and pull eachother over - never leaving a man behind
Barbwire crawl - when everyone was army crawling, us girls walk over and set off the rollin rollin rollin trend - yea that was us
A larger gentleman emerging from the tunnels saying 'that’s the only one I've been able to do!' with hands down the biggest smile on his face! Saw him after the race and he could not have been more chuffed with how he finished it!
I could not be prouder of these girls. Not only for entering the race and showing up, but having the confidence, grace and determination to get through it and persever - even when we did hear ambulance sirines going.. Every race I have with the pleasure of running with this group reminds me why I became a PT and what I love most is seeing people do what they may not necessarily think they're able to, or when they have doubts, they try and succeed. I love these girls, I love how there's little pressure when we race, I love how we do it together as a team and stick together till the end. I love how positive they all are and consistently help support eachother in any physical or emotional way they can.
Roll on the Beast..
